State's red ink worse than expected

The state's money woes are worse than predicted due to plummeting tax revenues and an unprecedented number of unpaid bills, the Illinois comptroller's office said today.

Tax revenues compared to a year ago fell $588 million in the first quarter of the state's fiscal year.
