Illegal and we're paying her way
Went to Aldi's this afternoon. I'm waiting in line behind a Mexican woman and her son (only speaking Spanish). She pulls out her LINK card to pay and the cashier asks if she wants cash back. At first she says no (probably not realizing she could do that) and then changes her mind and asks for $100 back. Okay--that pissed me off. She finishes, gets her money back and moves over to bag her groceries. Then it's my turn. I told the cashier, "I didn't know you could get cash back on food stamps." He says yes, if they have that option. He asks if I want cash back (from my debit card) and I said no, I just paid for that lady's groceries and cash back. He shook his head and agreed.
I know some people need help--that's fine, but she's probably working for cash (told the cashier that and he agreed) and so her income level (official income) is low. By the way, she drove off in a pretty nice Jeep SUV. This is why the country is bankrupt. And damn it, speak 'effin English, or become a citizen or get the hell out of my country.

Getting rid of the state scholarship program
I got my Masters' Degree from University of Illinois/Springfield with the assistance of a Legislative Scholarship from my home State Representative--Cal Skinner. I worked FOR YEARS serving the people of the State of Illinois (honorably) and NEVER got paid anywhere near what my services were worth. BUT--I got a great education with that scholarship and considered it my duty to repay the taxpayers with service. Sure, there have been some abuses of the scholarship program--but for ever abuse there are probably a thousand stories just like mine. So getting rid of the program is a bad idea--FIXING it would have been better. Another example of taking a sledge hammer to something rather than dealing with the real issues.

In a speech this weekend Joe Biden said "the choice will be crystal clear" in the next election. My grandparents were immigrants from Sicily. They valued their family, God, and made sure their kids knew how important it was to work, follow the law, and save your money. They passed that on to your kids and my parents passed those values on to me--and I have done the same for my offspring. I married a man with similar values.
Moral of the story--I have never seen myself as a victim--I believe in hard work and accomplishment. Living your life that way will lead you to happiness and wealth.

A lingering depression
So Tuesday was a WONDERFUL day across America for Republicans, and yes, here in Illinois it was pretty darned good to get rid of Bill "I'M A LIBERAL AND I DON'T GIVE A DAMN WHAT THE VOTERS IN MY DISTRICT WANT" Foster and Alexi "I LOVE MY MOB BUDDIES" G. BUT unfortunately the voters in this state allowed Pat Quinn to retain his death grip on Illinois. For the life of me I can't understand how anyone could vote for that boob, but of course the teachers' unions pushed him in spite of the fact that schools aren't getting the state money they're supposed to get, that Quinn uses them as a political tool, and that kids are not doing very well in state testing. Unions support slackers, and it's a damned shame they do not get it. They pushed lies about Bill Brady, allowed their members to believe the lies, and hide behind their lies.
So ya, the future of Illinois is bleak. Of course we'll get a tax increase. We'll suffer further deterioration of our credit rating, and the idiot known as Quinn will keep borrowing money (in concert with Madigan) and further putting our state in the red. It's so sad.
