Politicians continue to punish voters for their incompetence
by Tony Peraica
Well, as expected, our Illinois General Assembly approved Governor Blagojevich's amendatory veto of the CTA transit bill, which increases the sales tax by a quarter of a percentage point in Cook County and a half of a percentage point in the five collar counties. It also gives the Chicago City Council six months to enact a 40 percent increase in the real estate transfer tax.
By passing this half-billion dollar tax increase, the Illinois General Assembly has shown that they care more about protecting their political patronage and covering their mistakes, than in protecting and serving the voters of this state.
The CTA is full of waste and abuse, and deserves to be streamlined – not pumped full of additional taxpayer money.
But so is the case with Illinois politicians – they spend, spend, spend and tax, tax, tax. Their corruption has made Illinois the laughingstock of the country, and their incompetence has destroyed our economic climate and put our state deep in debt.
The numerous Republicans who supported this tax increase – including the current and former chairmen of the DuPage County Republican Party – should be ashamed of themselves for turning their backs on their constituents and abandoning the core principles of their Party.
