Bishop to skip Notre Dame graduation over Obama's views
(CNN) -- The Catholic bishop of South Bend, Indiana, will not attend graduation ceremonies at the University of Notre Dame because he disagrees with the stem-cell research and abortion views of the commencement speaker -- President Obama.
The University of Notre Dame says its invitation doesn't mean the university agrees with all of Obama's positions.
Bishop John D'Arcy, whose diocese includes Fort Wayne, Indiana, as well as the university town, said Tuesday in a written statement that "after much prayer" he has decided not to attend the ceremony.
"President Obama has recently reaffirmed, and has now placed in public policy, his long-stated unwillingness to hold human life as sacred," D'Arcy said. "While claiming to separate politics from science, he has in fact separated science from ethics and has brought the American government, for the first time in history, into supporting direct destruction of innocent human life."
As a Catholic I applaud Bishop D'Arcy. It's about time Catholics put their beliefs first and publicly express their disdain for No-bama's support for the murder of babies.
Stopped for lunch today and picked up a copy of today's Chicago Sun-Times in the restaurant to read while munching on my turkey reuben sandwich. Saw a story about the rise in abortions in Illinois. It's sickening. Here's a quote from an online story: "In Illinois, Planned Parenthood said it performed a record number of abortions in January, many of them motivated by economic worries, said CEO Steve Trombley, who declined to give exact numbers." Ya, they don't want to give numbers because when you do that you show how many babies are murdered every year. Those babies become real then, and they don't want them to become real--remember, these people say they're just "tissue."
Ask any mother if their baby was "tissue."

"This is a state that does almost everything wrong economically. It is not a right-to-work state and is thus heavily unionized, repelling new business investment. It has the fifth highest minimum wage among the states, the fifth most trial-lawyer friendly legal code, the sixth highest workers' compensation costs, and the 11th highest property taxes. It has one of the highest inheritance taxes, at 16%, so retirees flee to states with no death tax, such as Florida and Arizona. A rare Illinois advantage has been its relatively low income-tax rate, but that will shrink or vanish under Mr. Quinn's increase.
Over the last six years the state's revenues climbed by $7 billion, but the flush times led to flush spending. Per capita state expenditures after inflation have climbed to $4,700 in 2008 from $3,200 in 1998. The state now spends roughly $13,000 per public-school student in Chicago, but the money has done little to reverse a dismal high school graduation rate of 51%. The charter schools in Chicago take a demographically similar group of students and achieve 77% graduation rates, but Democrats have put a cap on more charters."
Funny how it takes the Wall Street Journal to show some objectivity and really put it out there so absolutely logically--Illinois is a governmental failure. It's a perfect example of what happens when you have one party rule, and that one party acts like they're drunk with power--while showing how really stupid they are.
And thanks to dimwit voters our country has put control of the Congress and the presidency in the Democrats hands, and they're spending money, well like crazy. Yep, it's crazy, and I just wonder if there's ANYONE who will stand up and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Just last week the government printed TEN TRILLION DOLLARS--do we have that kind of money? NOPE, and it's absolutely like you or I going into our basements and printing up dollars. Hey, it's FUNNY MONEY--it's backed by NOTHING. This is INSANITY.

Yesterday I visited one of the Illinois Secretary of State's offices to renew the licenses on a couple of our vehicles. One cost $105 and the other $78. Governor Quinn wants to raise the fee for each license by $20 and double the cost for a drivers' license. So I'm thinking that more people will just not renew their licenses....like the smarmy guy who zoomed past me in his BMW--with expired plates! So with Gov. Ryan we had bribes for licenses and plates (with disastrous results). With this governor we'll just have people who don't bother to get licenses & plates because they're so darned expensive. Yep, that's progress. Didn't Blago's fee increases drive many businesses out of the state? How will this be any different? Governor Quinn, maybe you'd like to reconsider this dumb proposal? But hey, if you want to raise the tax on cigarettes -- go for it! But wait a minute--won't more people just drive to Indiana to purchase those cigarettes?

How does the GOP reach out to minorities?

Let me see if I've got this right--even if you're not "aggrieved" you're raised to feel alienated, angry and screwed over. It's part of your culture. How do we get over this? There are a lot of good guys among us
So it's kind of a long story....but in a way I owe a thank you to our lousy state roads.
My husband blew a tire on one of the nastiest potholes we have on our state roads. He had to have his car towed to a local shop in our town. We swapped cars and he went on his way to a business meeting. Turns out when he bought the tires on his car he got the "road hazard" insurance on them (thank goodness) so he was able to get a replacement (after "depreciation" adjustment) from Sears. Well let's just say the tire service guy at Sears was kind of clueless about "foreign" cars and couldn't find the fancy tool in the car to remove the lug nuts. Well yesterday I took the car back to the great local service station that originally towed his car in after the blowout. SCOTT said sure, he'd pull the car in and both reinstall the new tire (newly balanced on what we thought might be a ruined rim) and rotate the tires for me. I said thanks, and walked down the street for a chocolate-mocha something or other at a coffee shop (it was deceptively cold in spite of the wonderful sunshine).
After a while I walked back and watched while Scott finished up. As I walked around the station I saw a picture of a soldier in uniform displayed on a shelf. SCOTT !!! I walked in the service area and asked if it was him. Yep, he said, a picture of him while serving in Iraq. Turns out he's a Marine in the reserves. I did my usual "thank you for your service" and we got to talking. I told him that I'd just gotten good news from a friend that her son was in Kuwait with his unit, returning from his 2nd tour in Iraq and how happy we were that he would be safely on his way home. SCOTT told me that he was in the conflict to liberate Iraq, and that did I know the original "call" letters for the airport in Kuwait--KIA. He said they changed that because it obviously brought up bad vibes. He said he assists with notifications to families whose sons or daughters have been killed, and talked about how wonderful he thought the motorcyclists who accompany soldiers' funerals were. We chatted about "Taking Chance" and Gary Sinise's new film (Brothers at War) and the concert Gary Sinise's band does every summer to benefit soldiers. Scott said he has another 2 years to go in the reserves but might stay longer because he's up for promotion.
So folks, if you need any auto work, please go to Duke & Lees in Geneva. Take a moment to thank SCOTT SINGER for his service. He's an American hero. Thanks Scott for your service. God bless you and all the other soldiers who do so much for our country.

If you have HBO and haven't seen this movie you should schedule some time to watch it. While I was on my "let's take care of family business" trip I recorded it to my DVR and just got the opportunity to watch it this afternoon. I have to admit I cried through most of it.

If you don't have HBO you can order the DVD. I STRONGLY recommend this film. If there are ANY teachers who read this blog, or if you know a teacher, BUY THIS DVD. Teachers--SHOW IT IN YOUR CLASSES. Jobless rate hits 8.1% in February as a record-high 12.5 million people are unemployed.

A lot has changed in the month since Obama became president. Let's review, shall we?
Things That Have Gotten WORSE Since Obama Became President
1. The U.S. stock market has plumetted to a six-year low. But, hey, it's only your retirement money, right?
2. Nationalization of banks has become a serious possibility. America, the new banana republic.
3. Obama has backed three MASSIVE new spending initiatives (the $787 billion stimulus bill, the trillion-dollar financial stability initiative and the $275 billion mortgage assistance program). A trillion here, a trillion there -- but who's counting?
4. Hundreds of thousands of classic children's books (children's books printed before the early 1980s) are being destroyed all across the country because they may contain miniscule traces of lead in their print
6. Russia has become emboldened and increasingly aggressive
7. Iran has also become more emboldened and aggressive, has launched its first home-built earth satellite, and now has enough material to make a nuclear weapon
8. Pakistan has freed the notorious A.Q. Khan, who sold nuclear technology to North Korea, Libya and Iran, and has capitulated to the brutal Taliban in the Swat region
9. Obama has announced that he will close Guantanamo within a year -- even though his administration has no clear answer to the question of what to do with the most dangerous GITMO terrorists, including 9/11 matermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.
10. Obama has dropped charges against the U.S.S. Cole bombing suspect allegedly responsible for the deaths of American sailors. It's been a good month for terrorists.
Now, here is a list of the things that have gotten better since Obama became president:
